Poetess Đoàn Thị Điểm

Đoàn Thị Điểm, also known as Hồng Hà Poetess, despite being a woman, possessed exceptional intelligence. From a young age, she was educated in the Four Books and Five Classics. During the time her husband was on a diplomatic mission, she received a copy of "Chinh Phụ Ngâm Khúc" written in classical Chinese by Đặng Trần Côn. Moved by the soul of the military wife depicted in the poem, she poured her emotional depth into translating "Chinh Phụ" into Vietnamese Nôm poetry, following the style of Vietnamese romantic poetry:

"Gazing together but seeing nothing,
Only the greenery of countless mulberry trees.
Countless mulberries, all a deep green hue,
Whose heart is sadder, mine or yours?"
